Donald Trump’s use of nicknames for his foes has been a strategy throughout his political career – and it appears he’s already been working on his characterization of Kamala Harris, our US partner network NBC News reports.
On July 4, he appeared to introduce it to the world: Laffin’ Kamala Harris.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Mr Trump tried to depict Ms Harris as mad, and he tied her to former boyfriend and mentor Willie Brown, the ex-mayor of San Francisco and California Assembly speaker.
“Respects to our potentially new Democrat challenger, Laffin’ Kamala Harris,” Mr Trump posted.
“She did poorly in the Democrat nominating process… but that doesn’t mean she’s not a ‘highly talented’ politician! Just ask her mentor, the Great Willie Brown of San Francisco.”
At a campaign rally in Michigan yesterday, Mr Trump explained the nickname, saying: “I call her Laffin’ Kamala. You ever watch her laugh? She’s crazy. You can tell a lot by a laugh. No, she’s crazy. She’s nuts.”
