According to the Billboard website, the listed “Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).”
The report further confirms that “the new April 23-dated chart (where The Life of Pablo is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, April 12.”
No track in the album was available for individual purchase as Yeezy had earlier informed via social media.
Yet, The Life of Pablo has recorded great success since it’s release on February 13 through online streaming and traditional album sales.
The album’s arrival at the top of the chart was delayed because “the set’s sales and its streams through Tidal were not reported to Nielsen Music, whose data powers the Billboard 200 chart.”
After marketing the album only on Tidal and through West’s official website which delayed it’s chart record, The Life of Pablo became widely available to a lot of other streaming services on April 1.
It was the overall sales record gathered and reported to Nielsen Music that promoted the album to the top of the charts.
