The winners of the annual World Travel Awards – also known as the ‘Oscars of tourism’ – for Europe have been revealed.
According to this year’s selection, passengers will get the most for their money at Lufthansa, Europe’s second-largest airline.
The German carrier won not only the award for leading airline overall but also the gong for best economy class.
Swiss Air got the nods for business and first class.
British Airways was also nominated for all the airline awards but missed out.
The selection is based on input from executives from the travel and tourism industry and consumers, who had a year to vote online for their favourites.
Customers looking for cheaper alternatives to the relatively pricey Lufthansa economy class tickets may turn to Volotea, the best European low-cost airline, according to the WTA.
While the Spanish budget carrier is fairly prevalent on the continent, it only serves one route from the UK: London Gatwick to Brest, France, with flights starting from about £55.
Worldwide winners are set to be announced on 6 December at a ceremony in Bahrain.
