It was a busy morning for Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy on Sky News, with lots of subjects to cover.
She was asked if Donald Trump and the Republican Party have a “point” in accusing Labour of foreign interference in the presidential election.
“I don’t think he does,” she says.
Ms Nandy points out that all political parties have relationships with their “sister parties” abroad – but it has never constrained working with government of different shades.
She says: “The last Blair government worked very closely with the Bush administration, despite having a strong relationship with Democrats.
“And the Cameron administration had a good relationship with the Republicans while working very closely with the Obama administration.”
Starmer unlikely to meet with Harris before election as he touches down in Samoa
Overnight UK time – which is the middle of the day in the Pacific – Sir Keir Starmer touched down in Samoa.
The prime minister is in Polynesia for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, also known as CHOGM.
During the somewhat gruelling trip to the other side of the world, Sir Keir sought to play down a potential row with US Republicans over Labour Party staff going out to help the Democrats in the presidential election.
Speaking from the capital Apia, Sky’s political editor Beth Rigby said: “It is politically difficult.
“It’s been downplayed by Number 10 and by the prime minister, but a diplomatic source back in London did say to me that this could be problematic for the UK government.”
She added that it now seems unlikely that Sir Keir will meet with Kamala Harris before the election – which is likely down to diary difficulties.
However, she added that Sir Keir “doesn’t want to poke the bear any more”.
Sir Keir met with Donald Trump on a visit to the US recently, and had intended to meet with both main candidates for the White House.
