Rishi Sunak has told world leaders that aid from the UK to Ukraine will continue “for as long as it takes”.
Number 10 said the prime minister spoke during a call convened by Joe Biden – see 16.21 post – to stress the UK’s ongoing support for Kyiv.
In a statement, a spokesman said: “The leaders agreed that [Vladimir] Putin has made a strategic miscalculation in invading Ukraine and pointed to the stark Russian losses on the battlefield and loss of capability as evidence of that.”
During the call, Mr Sunak also conveyed his “deep disappointment” in Moscow’s decision to exit the Black Sea grain deal which allowed the safe export of Ukrainian grain to the rest of the globe.

A Russian attack on Ukraine’s southern Kherson region has killed one person and injured at least seven others, says an official.
The strike on the village of Antonivka fatally injured a 69-year-old man who was in his garage at the time, according to a report by Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin on Telegram.
Five women and two men, aged between 28 and 77, were also hurt, he said.
