Storm Isha throws England into darkness

Thousands of homes have been left without power in Northern England this morning as Storm Isha continues to cause disruption across the country.

Electricity North West said almost 8,000 homes had lost power, with crews standing down due to the weather conditions.

As a result, expected restoration times have been pushed back to 5pm on Tuesday, it said.

More than 1,500 Northern Powergrid customers also have no electricity.

The company’s live power cuts map shows at least 1,540 customers are currently suffering from an outage.

“Our network has been impacted by Storm Isha. Our teams are working to restore power to impacted customers where it is safe to do so,” a message on its website reads.

“Due to the current severe weather conditions, we are unable to provide you with estimated restoration times.”

We reported earlier that 170,000 have been without power in Ireland and 45,000 in Northern Ireland.
