GQEBERHA, July 13, 2026 — Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has returned to South African Premier Division side Chippa United, five months after leaving the club by mutual agreement.

The Nigerian international completed his comeback ahead of the 2026/2027 season, ending a period of uncertainty over his next career move after his departure from the Eastern Cape-based club earlier in the year.

Chippa United officially confirmed the goalkeeper’s return, expressing excitement about bringing back the player who became a key figure for the club during his first spell.

“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys.”

The club added that Nwabali was returning after taking time away from football and that they were pleased to have him back with the team.

Nwabali initially left Chippa United in February 2026 after submitting a request to depart, with the club agreeing to release him after discussions between both parties.

The goalkeeper attracted significant attention following his outstanding performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a major role in helping the Super Eagles reach the final.

However, his extended period away from competitive football affected his match rhythm and reportedly impacted his position within Nigeria’s national team setup.

The return to Chippa United provides the 30-year-old shot-stopper with an opportunity to regain regular playing time, rebuild his confidence and strengthen his chances of returning to the Super Eagles squad for future international assignments.

During his previous spell with the club, Nwabali established himself as one of the standout goalkeepers in South African football. His performances earned him recognition as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper and made him one of the country’s most celebrated players after the AFCON tournament.

Despite interest from other clubs after his impressive international performances, a move away from Chippa United did not materialise, leading the goalkeeper to choose a return to familiar surroundings.

With the new season approaching, Nwabali is expected to join Chippa United’s preparations as the club looks to improve its performance, while the goalkeeper focuses on restoring his form and competing for national team recognition once again.
