Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp:
“What happened last year wasn’t good enough, but what Ange Postecoglou said was they were prioritising Europe. And they ended up winning a trophy which for Spurs fans was important for them given all the criticism in the past.
“To be where they are right now – 14th at this stage of the season – isn’t good enough. They’ve won just two home games against Brentford and Burnley. The form hasn’t been good enough. His argument is: it’s hard competing to get into the Champions League when you’re in it.
“But you look at those seasons under Mauricio Pochettino – second and third – that was phenomenal. That’s real consistency and that’s what you’re trying to achieve if you’re Tottenham. That’s what the fans expect and rightly so.
“It has been difficult. Frank says he needs a little bit more – and I do believe he deserves time. But he said they were really poor against Arsenal but were good against PSG. That’s not going to wash with the Spurs fans. They want to do really well against Arsenal and if they don’t do well against PSG, that’s fine. Chelsea at home, they weren’t good enough either.
“That’s where you create that belief between the manager, the fans and the players – your home form. That hasn’t been good enough by any stretch of the imagination. Thomas Frank has to accept that.
“In defence, he hasn’t got two of his better players going in no Solanke and Kulusevski. And Maddison you can add in there as well. You need creativity and goals. Those three players have been a miss, it’s not been good enough from Brennan Johnson, Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani hasn’t hit the ground running.
“And also recruitment, I don’t think that’s been good enough as times. When Eze came around, make sure you sign him. He would have been a gamechanger. Xavi Simons has come in, looked good but has he affected the big games? Not yet.
“Frank still needs time, it doesn’t always happen in terms of big clubs. If he can get the right players in at the right time, I’m sure he can bee a success there.”
