Smoke still rising from wreckage at site where Hezbollah leader was killed

More than two days after the huge Israeli airstrike that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, smoke is still rising from the scene.

People are flocking to the site this weekend – some to pay their respects and pray, others to see what is left of their homes.

The Friday night strike had levelled multiple high-rise blocks of flats in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahieh.

It was targeting a meeting at an underground Hezbollah compound.

Onlookers at the site today clambered over large slabs of concrete, while some Hezbollah workers used a bulldozer to excavate around the rubble.

Huge craters are visible at the scene, some of them apparently 30 metres deep.

It’s believed some of these were dug by rescuers to reach the dead.

Some people in the area said their relatives were still missing following the attack.

One woman read from the Islamic holy book, the Quran, as a group of bystanders sobbed.

A man collapsed in tears after seeing the destruction.

Further 21 people killed in Israeli strikes on Lebanon

Another Israeli strike on Lebanon today has killed 21 people in the eastern city of Baalbek-Hermel, according to a preliminary toll.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry has said another 47 people were injured.

It was earlier reported that 24 people had been killed in the southern city of Ain Deleb.
