Sir Paul McCartney Initially Joked That Taylor Swift Should Sing Beatles Classic to Travis Kelce at Their Wedding

The Beatles legend revealed he wanted the pop superstar to duet with him on ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ at her Madison Square Garden nuptials

Sir Paul McCartney initially joked that Taylor Swift should perform “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at her wedding to Travis Kelce.

The Beatles legend sang the band’s 1964 classic for the pop megastar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, both 36, at their nuptials at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3 at Taylor’s request — but Paul, 84, wanted her to join him on stage for a duet.

Appearing on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Friday, he shared: “I said, you should sing along, and you should sing it to your man.”

It is not clear whether Taylor joined Paul on stage for a duet of “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”

“Parallels” Between Swift and The Beatles

In May, McCartney admitted he sees “parallels” between The Beatles and the 14-time Grammy winner, because she has achieved a level of fame comparable to the hysteria that surrounded the Fab Four — Paul, Sir Ringo Starr, 86, the late John Lennon, and the late George Harrison — in the mid-1960s.

Appearing on BBC’s Tracks of My Years, Paul was asked if he would give any advice to the “Opalite” hitmaker and replied: “You do see the parallel, you know the fame and the amount of fame and the worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had, but I don’t think she needs any advice to tell you the truth… If she asked for it, I definitely would. I’m like the older brother to that generation, or more like the granddad, actually.”

A Party Full of Pop Stars

The “Hey Jude” legend met Taylor at a party organised by his wife Nancy Shevell, 66, and his 55-year-old daughter, fashion designer Stella McCartney, which was also attended by a number of other female pop stars including Sabrina Carpenter, 27, Billie Eilish, 24, and 23-year-old Olivia Rodrigo.

And Paul admitted he was full of admiration for them all.

He said: “I did meet [her]… We had a party, my wife and my daughter Stella are very good at getting cool people to a party, and I ended up chatting to them all.

“There was Taylor, there was Billie Eilish, there was Olivia Rodrigo, there was Sabrina Carpenter, you know, they’re really cool people, they’re very good.

“I like their voices… If they need any advice, yeah, I would be happy to give it, but I don’t think they do.”

Mutual Admiration

In 2024, Paul was spotted at one of Taylor’s Eras Tour shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, just days after he turned 82 on June 18 that year. The “I Knew It, I Knew You” artist attended Paul’s concert at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre in March 2026.
