Russia holds military drills in Bering and Chukchi seas

Russia’s Pacific Fleet is holding exercises in the Bering and Chukchi Seas as well as on the Chukchi Peninsula in the country’s Far East, the Russian defence ministry has announced.

The drills involve some 10,000 service personnel and more than 50 units of surface ships, submarines, naval aircraft, helicopters as well as coastal defence rocket systems, it said.

The exercise is aimed at training defence operations on Russia’s northeastern border.

Photos appear to show destroyed Russian submarine

Photos appearing to show a destroyed Russian submarine are circulating online.

The images, shared by Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT), purport to reveal a submarine that was damaged in Sevastopol.

It claims the pictures indicate the vessel was hit twice.

It comes after reports a Russian submarine was damaged by a significant Ukrainian attack on a Sevastopol shipyard last week.

Sky News understands British cruise missiles were used in the strike, which also hit a Russian warship.

Images on social media captured explosions and flames ripping through the area in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Kremlin has ‘no information’ on Chechen leader’s health

Over the last few days, rumours about the heath of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov have been circulating online.

On Saturday, a Ukrainian intelligence official said Mr Kadyrov – who is a close ally of Vladimir Putin – was gravely ill.

Today, the Kremlin has said it has “no information” on his health and did not comment any further on the matter.

It comes after a video was shared on Mr Kadyrov’s Telegram account, showing him walking outdoors.

It was captioned: “I strongly advise everyone who cannot distinguish truth from lies on the internet to take a walk in the fresh air and put their thoughts in order. The rain is wonderfully invigorating.”

Two people killed in overnight Russian attacks

Two people have been killed in a wave of overnight Russian air strikes, Ukrainian officials have said.

The 72-year-old man and elderly woman were killed in the southern Kherson region, local governor Oleksandr Prokudin said, adding three others were wounded.

He said four others were hurt in a morning drone attack on
the town of Beryslav, adding “The occupiers deliberately attacked a crowded place, dropping explosives near the local bus
station.”

In Odesa, 11 drones were destroyed in attacks on the region, the region’s governor Oleh Kiper said.

The governor of the neighbouring Mykolaiv region said falling debris caused a fire in an unused building, and a blast wave damaged nearby buildings.

Ukraine’s air force said 18 out of 24 Russian drones were shot down, and that 17 cruise missiles were downed overnight.
