Vladimir Putin has said the Russian military must “dislodge” Ukrainian troops from border regions, according to reports.
Speaking at a meeting with top security and defence officials, the Russian president said the invasion in Kursk was an attempt by Kyiv to stop Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine and gain a better negotiation position.
Mr Putin said Ukraine had failed in its aim to destabilise Russia with its attack.
He previously described the move by Kyiv as a “large-scale provocation” that involved the “indiscriminate shelling of civilian buildings, residential houses and ambulances.”
