President Claudia: Mexico’s economy remains solid

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday rejected the allegation that continued violence could undermine Mexico’s economy.

“Mexico’s economy is solid and we are going to make progress towards security,” the president said at a press conference.

Sheinbaum acknowledged a rise in violence in some parts of the country, such as the northern state of Sinaloa where more than 30 people have died in the backlash following the arrest of a drug cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.

According to the International Monetary Fund, at the macroeconomic level, violence has an impact on economic growth and Mexico could be affected if violent crime continues.

Dismissing the assertion, Sheinbaum said, “I do not agree. There is a security strategy that will yield results.”

“As I have said before, it is not from one day to the next,” the president said.
