Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has imposed a curfew across ten local government areas in the state.

According to Daily Post, these affected areas are those bordering the Old Oyo National Park. The park has reportedly become a growing source of anxiety for locals, as it is believed to be the location where bandits are holding the abducted students and teachers.

It was gathered that 39 students and seven teachers were taken hostage last month in several communities within the Oriire Local Government Area. On Tuesday, Governor Makinde announced the curfew for the ten local government zones surrounding the park.

The directive, which establishes a 16-hour daily curfew, was disclosed in an official statement released by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde. The statement was made public through the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Tuesday evening. It specifies that the curfew will come into effect on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, running daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for an initial 48-hour period.

The ten affected local government areas are: Oriire (headquarters: Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (headquarters: Igboho), Irepo (headquarters: Kisi), Saki West (headquarters: Saki), Saki East (headquarters: Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (headquarters: Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (headquarters: Otu), Iseyin (headquarters: Iseyin), Olorunsogo (headquarters: Igbeti), and Atiba (headquarters: Offa-Meta, Oyo).
