Nigeria international Victor Osimhen is expected to wear Galatasaray’s famous No. 9 shirt when the Turkish champions begin the 2026/27 season.

The jersey, previously worn by Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, is set to be handed to Osimhen as part of the club’s plans for the new campaign following changes within the squad.

Osimhen has worn the No. 45 shirt since joining the Istanbul club, but club officials have reportedly decided that the prolific forward will now inherit the traditional striker’s number.

The decision is widely seen as recognition of the Nigerian’s growing importance at Galatasaray after his impressive performances and goalscoring contributions. The club views him as one of the key figures around whom it intends to build its squad for the upcoming season.

The change also comes amid reports that Icardi is expected to leave the Turkish champions, creating the opportunity for the coveted No. 9 jersey to be reassigned.

Osimhen is expected to lead Galatasaray’s attack once again as the club prepares to defend its domestic titles and compete in European competitions during the new campaign. The shirt switch is regarded as another sign of the confidence the club has placed in the Super Eagles striker as one of its leading players.
