Ogun Police Recover AK-47 Rifle, Ammunition and Mercedes-Benz GLK in Ota

The Ogun State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle, two rounds of ammunition and a Mercedes-Benz GLK during a security operation in Ota, adding to a series of recoveries following an attempted robbery in the area.

The latest development was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babasheyi, in a statement issued on Monday, November 2, 2026, in Abeokuta.

According to the police spokesperson, officers discovered the firearm and ammunition while searching an unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK. The recovered weapon was an AK-47 rifle, while the ammunition consisted of two rounds of 7.62mm cartridges.

Babasheyi confirmed that the vehicle and other recovered exhibits had been secured, adding that investigations were continuing to establish further details surrounding the discovery.

The recovery followed an earlier operation in Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, where police officers attached to the Onipanu Division responded to a distress call about a suspected night robbery.

During the operation, the officers reportedly engaged the suspected armed robbers in a gun battle. One suspect was neutralised, while other members of the group escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

Police said the earlier operation also resulted in the recovery of two vehicles, a locally made pistol and several items believed to have been stolen. The recovered property included electronic devices and household equipment.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and professionalism.

Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property across the state. He also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist efforts to prevent crime and apprehend suspected offenders.

The police said investigations into the recoveries were ongoing.
