The NFL has moved the Los Angeles Rams’ wild-card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings to Arizona.
The game will be played on Monday night at State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals, in suburban Glendale.
The league announced the decision yesterday, a few hours after a fire broke out in an area several miles from the Rams’ training complex in the Woodland Hills neighbourhood.
The Rams cancelled the post-practice media availability for their players to allow everyone to get home quickly.
In a brief statement, the NFL said the decision was made “in the interest of public safety”.
LA ‘not out of danger’ yet, says fire chief
Los Angeles is still “not out of danger” from the wildfires burning across the city, the chief of the LA Fire Department says.
“You can see the active fires that are burning with strong winds that are going to continue throughout the night,” said Kristin Crowley.
“I can tell you and assure you that firefighters and first responders remain focused on protecting lives and property. We urge the public to help us.”
There are still five fires burning across LA – see our earlier posts for more info on their location and size.
