Almost 100,000 homes and businesses in Los Angeles are without electricity, according to a site that tracks US power outages.

The figures, from Poweroutages.us, show that nearly 60,000 customers of the LA Department of Water & Power are without electricity.

Nearly 40,000 Southern California Edison customers also have no power as the wildfires continue to burn across the city.

$1m pledged to support music artists impacted by fires

The Recording Academy, which runs the Grammys, and the MusiCares charity have pledged $1m (£813,000) to support music artists impacted by the wildfires.

Grammys boss Harvey Mason Jr said it is important the music industry comes together to support artists in the face of the disaster.

“Our organisations exist to serve music people because music is a powerful force for good in the world, and we hope the broader industry will now rally to this cause,” he said.

The executive director of MusiCares said funds can help artists who are currently displaced “with short term emergent needs”, with longer-term services available as more is known about the full impact of the fires.

Fire chief warns of further destruction in coming days

California fire chief David Acuna says the number of structures destroyed by wildfires in recent days has caused “significant shock”.

He told BBC Radio 4 that there is no “hard data”, but estimates more than 10,000 structures are likely to have been destroyed.

“It is unusual to have such a densely populated area with such a large fire roll through that,” he said, adding that winds in the coming days could lead to further destruction.

Among the buildings destroyed by fire include homes and businesses, while landmarks such as The Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center and the Palisades Theatre have also been devastated.
