Several news outlets in Israel say that Benjamin Netanyahu will convene his security cabinet, with two ceasefires on the agenda.
The Times of Israel says the meeting will be held today, and notes that the meeting follows Donald Trump’s remarks on Saturday that he had been briefed on ways to “blast the hell out of” Iran if no deal were reached.
According to the broadcaster Kan, the meeting will also see talks on a possible end to the ceasefire with Hamas and a return to fighting in the Gaza Strip.
That follows Hamas representatives telling the US-led Board of Peace that it is demanding a full ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, without a staged disarmament.
“Hamas is not complying with the disarmament agreement” as agreed under the ceasefire last October, an Israeli source tells Kan.
“We are holding discussions with the mediators.”
What’s in Iran’s new 14-point proposal?
Earlier today, we reported that Donald Trump had received a new proposal from Iran on ending the war.
The president did not seem optimistic about it – he said “they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World”.
According to semi-official state news outlet Tasnim, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran sent a 14-point proposal to Pakistani mediators.
The outlet says much of Iran’s conditions for ending the war remain the same:
- Guarantees that combat operations against Iran will not resume
- The withdrawal of US forces from the Middle East
- An end to the ongoing US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz
- The release of frozen Iranian assets
- An end to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict
- Reparations paid for damages, among other conditions
As recently as yesterday morning, Trump rejected similar demands, saying at the White House that he was “not satisfied” with Iran’s proposals.
