More than 30 Israelis held hostage by Hamas in Gaza, says IDF

More than 30 Israelis are being held hostage by Hamas in Gaza, Israel’s Defence Forces has said. 

Posting an update on X, the force added at least 900 Israelis have been killed and 2,616 injured. 

A total of 4,500 rockets have been fired on the country, it said, and 1,290 Hamas targets have been hit. 

“War with Hamas – 67 hours in. We are actively operating to put a stop to the horrors of the Hamas terrorist organisation is inflicting on Israel,” it said. 

Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, launched its attack on Israel on Saturday, arriving in the country of boats, trucks and paragliders. 

As many as 3,500 rockets were fired on Israel, and the country retaliated with strikes on Gaza. 

The latest figures by the health ministry in the Gaza Strip show at least 687 Palestinians have been killed in the attacks.

Israeli deputy commander killed ‘in confrontation with terrorists’

An Israeli deputy commander has been killed by militant fighters, the country’s defence forces (IDF) has said. 

Alim Abdallah died “during a confrontation with terrorists who infiltrated from Lebanon into Israeli territory”, the IDF said in a statement. 

The 40-year-old’s family has been informed, it added.
