Israeli airstrikes are continuing in Rafah after the IDF took control of the Palestinian side of the nearby crossing.
At least 27 people, including six women and nine children, have been killed in Rafah since Monday evening, CNN has reported.
These photos give a sense of what’s happening in the city, where reports suggest well over one million people are sheltering.
US move on bombs to Israel ‘important’
A full military intervention in Rafah would be “catastrophic”, Labour’s Jonathan Ashworth has told Sky News.
The shadow paymaster general said the decision by the US to pause the shipment of bombs to Israel over fears of a Rafah assault was a “significant” and “important” intervention.
“When we look at what is happening in Rafah – that is catastrophic,” he said.
“A full military intervention into Rafah would be completely catastrophic.
“Already so many thousands of Palestinians have been killed.”
He said an “immediate ceasefire” was needed and “a full intervention in Rafah should not go ahead”.
