Mike Pearce: US will support Israel in restoring deterrence

Yesterday, Mike Pence spoke to reporters about Iran’s attack on Israel on 1 April.

The former US vice president said the strike, which included more than 300 drones and missiles, was “unprecedented”.

“It is important we make it clear to Iran and other actors in hte region that we will support Israel in doing whatever they need to do to restore deterrence,” he said.

“In this moment, it would be important that the allies of Israel will support whatever decision the leaders of Israel make.”

Since he spoke to us, Israel appears to have launched a retaliatory strike on Iran.

The US was not involved in the attack, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to our US partner network NBC News.

The source also said there was a pre-notification to the US from the Israelis about the strike.

‘Everything is back to normal’

Iranian TV is reporting that “everything is back to normal” in the country after an apparent Israeli attack this morning.

Presenter Gisoo Misha Ahmadi said a military official had confirmed “some loud sounds” had been heard in Isfahan.

The city is located in central Iran and is home to a nuclear site and military airbase.
