Michelin-starred restaurant shuts doors after 23 years

The Michelin-starred Locanda Locatelli in central London has closed after 23 years.

In a statement on Instagram, the restaurant said it had been forced to shut its doors due to “reasons out of our control”.

“We will miss all our clients, many who have become friends. But when one door closes, another opens, so please check our social media for updates on our new project,” it added.

The dining spot within the Hyatt Regency hotel in Marylebone has been visited by celebrities including Brad Pitt and Madonna over the years.

It was opened by chef Giorgio Locatelli and his wife in 2002, and was awarded a Michelin star a year later.

It is the latest in a series of Michelin-starred restaurants to close as the industry struggles with rising bills.

Last January, celebrity chef Michel Roux Jr closed the doors on his iconic Gavroche restaurant after 56 years in business.

Later in the year, Purnell’s in Birmingham shut down after bookings decreased by more than 20%.

Big name chefs Marco Pierre White, Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti, Simon Rimmer and Tom Brown have also announced closures in the past year.
