A man who claimed to have spent $100,000 on plastic surgery to look like Justin Bieber was found dead of a drug overdose in a Los Angeles motel, a court heard.
Thirty-five-year-old Tobias Strebel died of an accidental overdose and multiple intoxication, Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled.
He had multiple drugs–Valium, Xanax and more–in his system at the time of his death.
Stebel discussed his transformation on reality shows such as ‘Botched’and ‘My Strange Addiction’.
He said he had hair transplants and surgery on his eyebrows, lips and chin to look more like Bieber.
The Los Angeles Coroner reports that the lethal cocktail that ended his life included a mix of Valium, Xanax and alcohol. Furthermore, the report concludes that there was no apparent trauma or foul play involved.
The 35-year-old Strebel, who went by the name Toby Sheldon, was found dead on Aug. 21, 2015 in a room at a Motel 6 in North Hills, California after being reported missing five days earlier.
The LAPD said at the time that the reality star’s disappearance may have been triggered by a breakup with his boyfriend.
“What brought me to Bieber was the whole package: the full cheeks, the full temples, the bright open eyes, the full luscious lips, and facial framing … he’s just extraordinarily beautiful,” he said on Botched.
Strebel’s manager, Gina Rodriguez, said at the time she was surprised to learn of his death. “We are very shocked,” she says. “He didn’t seem depressed in any way.”
“When he came to me he just wanted to put his story out there to see what would come of it,” she says. “It wasn’t that he wanted to become a huge celebrity, it was like, ‘Let me share my story.’ We started putting him out there. It seemed like he was having fun doing it but it wasn’t like a consistent thing. Every few months we would get something for him.”
