Reds stand firm on three fronts as Deadline Day delivers rejection, U-turn, and a La Liga loan exit

Liverpool have turned down a £30m offer from Nottingham Forest for highly-rated teenager Trey Nyoni, while Cody Gakpo has accepted the club’s decision to block his move to Manchester City, and Harvey Elliott is set to join Valencia on loan, according to multiple sources.

Liverpool Reject Nottingham Forest’s £30m Bid for Nyoni

Nottingham Forest had a bid of £25m plus £5m in add-ons – totalling £30m – rejected for 19-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni. The Times journalist Paul Joyce first reported the news on X at 7:52pm on August 31, with TEAMtalk’s Pete O’Rourke adding shortly after that Liverpool had “flatly rejected” the approach and “insist the talented midfielder is not for sale”.

Nyoni has been at Liverpool since 2023, having joined from Leicester City. The teenager has made 21 first-team appearances for the Reds so far, providing one assist. Manager Andoni Iraola rates him extremely highly and sees him as an integral part of his squad.

According to TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Liverpool chose not to sign a replacement for Curtis Jones – who departed for Inter Milan – precisely because of Nyoni’s emergence. Bailey reported: “Before pre-season I am told that Andoni Iraola, aware of the Curtis Jones situation, was worried about the depth – one reason he wanted Jones to stay”.

Iraola had assessed various midfield options including Adam Wharton, Alex Scott and Lamine Camara – all valued at £50m to £70m or more. However, Nyoni’s performances during pre-season convinced the manager he is “first-team ready” and can compete with the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.

Gakpo Accepts Liverpool U-Turn After Man City Move Collapses

Cody Gakpo had a deal in place to join Manchester City, with the Premier League champions submitting an £85m bid for the Dutch winger. However, Liverpool pulled the plug on the transfer after struggling to find a suitable replacement.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the decision on X at 4:56pm on August 31, writing: “OFFICIAL: Liverpool have decided to keep Cody Gakpo at the club as they can’t find a replacement. £85m bid from Manchester City rejected as Gakpo has accepted to stay, ready to continue at #LFC”.

The Netherlands international has accepted the club’s decision and is willing to remain at Anfield.

Elliott Set for Valencia Loan Move

In a separate development, Harvey Elliott is on his way out of Liverpool. Romano has reported that the attacking midfielder is set to join Valencia on loan.

The Italian journalist noted on X at 5:17pm on August 31: “Valencia reach verbal agreement to sign Harvey Elliott from Liverpool, here we go! Majority of salary covered and deal agreed with Elliott set for La Liga switch. Medical booked, as @MatteMoretto reports. Green light from #LFC”.
