The court is now shown more dashcam footage from Paul Doyle’s return to Liverpool city centre, at around 5.54pm.

This part of the hearing looks at the immediate moments before Doyle started the attack on Dale Street.

Footage shows Doyle driving against a sea of pedestrians and other traffic on Dale Street, with hundreds of people walking in the road.

Greaney says there was “no need” to go down Dale Street, as the friend he was picking up, Dave Clarke, had said he would walk to his location.

“The defendant carried on down Dale Street and, even at that stage, he was a cause of concern for pedestrians,” Greaney says, adding that Doyle was in an “angry state”.

The court is then shown stills from Doyle’s dashcam showing pedestrians who are visibly irate at his driving.

The prosecutor says of the pedestrians: “They were doing nothing wrong. 

“The defendant was the one driving a nearly two-tonne vehicle. 

“He was the one who had to take care, with a duty of care for the pedestrians in front of him.”

Greaney adds: “The strong sense from the dashcam footage is the defendant regarded himself as the most important person on Dale Street.”

The court is shown the footage of the defendant’s final movements in the car before he is brought to a stop.

Once again, the dashcam footage causes gasps in the courtroom at the sound of bodies hitting against the car.

The court is also shown CCTV of the attack, with Paul Doyle’s car labelled and shown from a different angle, as he veers away from traffic implementations.

Mobile phone footage captured by pedestrians from various angles shows the distress and panic caused by the attack.

Where Doyle can be seen in the driver’s seat, the prosecution says it shows “the face of a man in a rage”.

Another piece of mobile phone footage shows the moment Doyle reversed aggressively before ignoring traffic measures and ploughing into crowds. 

Pram carrying six-month-old boy seen knocked to floor during attack

More footage of the attack is being played in court now.

In one brief clip, a black pram can be seen knocked over on its side in the middle of the road after Paul Doyle’s car had passed.

“The defendant had driven into that pram,” Paul Greaney KC says.

The prosecutor tells the court the pram was carrying a six-month-old boy when it was struck.

Miraculously, the child was uninjured, he adds.
