The Ministry of Health of Libya’s Government of National Unity and the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday signed a strategic cooperation framework outlining a technical partnership roadmap for 2026-2027, aimed at strengthening the country’s health system.
The agreement was announced during a meeting in Tripoli attended by Minister of Health Mohammed Al-Ghouj, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Hanan Balkhy, and WHO Country Representative in Libya Ahmed Zouiten, along with technical teams from both sides.
The framework focuses on enhancing primary healthcare services, supporting clinics and hospitals, improving operational efficiency, and developing referral and response systems, according to the Government of National Unity.
Due to years of armed conflict, Libyan authorities have been struggling to provide basic services for the people, including healthcare.
