Leeds tower clock fall kills pregnant woman – baby in critical condition

A baby delivered after their mother died in a fall from a tower block in Leeds is “receiving critical care” in hospital, police have said.

The woman, who was aged in her 30s, fell “from height” at Shakespeare Towers, in Shakespeare Approach, Burmantofts, on Tuesday.

West Yorkshire Police said the woman, who died at the scene, had been in the late stages of pregnancy.

The baby was delivered at hospital.

There were no suspicious circumstances and the coroner’s office has been informed, a spokesperson added.

Officers were called to the scene by the ambulance service at 10.24am.

In a statement to Sky News, the force said: “The woman, aged in her thirties, was in the late stage of pregnancy and her baby was delivered at hospital after the incident and is receiving critical care.”
