Kylian Mbappe became Paris Saint-Germain’s poster boy after his amazing 2018 World Cup run, and Gianluigi Buffon believes the French footballer has special talents capable of making him a world best.
Buffon, now a teammate to Mbappe at PSG, says the 19-year-old is on a path to greatness, adding that the World Cup winner will definitely become one of the greatest footballers of all time someday.
Mbappe broke records in Russia as the second footballer to score in a World Cup final. The PSG striker’s jaw-dropping exploits during the global football tournament necessitated Pele’s hearty remark about “dusting off his boots” for a modern-day football challenge if the former Monaco ace continues to make history.

Collaborating Pele’s remark, Buffon says Mbappe is one of the finest footballers, having recalled an encounter between Monaco and Juventus during the 2016/17 Champions League semi-finals.
The Italian goalkeeper says the striker’s dazzling goal which was also Monaco’s only consolation from the away game that ended 2-1 in favour of the Old Lady, proved Mbappe as a clinical finisher and a growing threat in both regional and global football competitions.
His words, ‘After the match against PSG in 2017, I spoke with Andrea Barzagli, who is one of my great friends.
‘He [Barzagli] said to me, “Gigi, in 20 years of my career I have rarely seen a player run so fast with the ball.”’
Barzagli said he had a hard time stopping Mbappe, the goalkeeper noted during an interview with PSG’s official club magazine.
‘These candid words are not insignificant because Barzagli, when he is focused and fit, is really a top defender,’ Buffon said.
‘It is clear to everyone that Mbappe is talented…He has something more than others and I pray he will remain humble and keep eyes on the trophy—with passion and sacrifices. This is the only way he can rewrite history.’
