Jeff Bezos Just Got One Step Closer to Owning a Chunk of Liverpool FC

If you thought the Premier League was already swimming in billionaire cash, brace yourself. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and a consortium of heavy-hitters are reportedly on the verge of snapping up a roughly one-third stake in Liverpool Football Club.

And we’re not talking pocket change. The deal could value the Merseyside giants at a staggering £4.4 billion (about $5.9 billion USD) —one of the highest valuations ever seen in a football club transaction.

Who’s in the investor group?

It’s not just Bezos. The consortium also includes Eduardo Saverin, the Brazilian-born co-founder of Facebook (yes, that Facebook). The group is reportedly being led by Amit Bhatia, a British businessman who happens to be the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and a former shareholder in Queens Park Rangers.

According to Sky News, the deal could be announced as early as this week, with Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) , staying in control of the club even after selling a significant slice.

A massive payday for FSG

FSG bought Liverpool back in 2010 for a reported £300 million. If this stake sale goes through at the reported valuation, it would be a massive return on investment—and a testament to how far the club has come under their stewardship.

Liverpool have won the Premier League title in 2025 and have been a consistent force both domestically and in Europe. But the club is currently in a period of transition.

A new era on Merseyside

This season has already seen the departure of manager Arne Slot, who left after a successful spell, and the exit of legendary forward Mohamed Salah, who moved to Trabzonspor in Turkey. On top of that, Michael Edwards—the mastermind behind the squad that won Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years—stepped down from his executive role at FSG in July.

So, new investment could provide a much-needed financial boost to rebuild the squad and maintain the club’s competitive edge.

What does this mean for fans?

For now, FSG remains in charge, so day-to-day operations and transfer policies probably won’t change overnight. But having Bezos and his deep pockets in the ownership mix could open new commercial doors—and maybe even fund a few blockbuster signings.

Still, some supporters might worry about the growing influence of billionaire investors in football. But if the price is right and the club stays competitive, most Liverpool fans will probably welcome the extra firepower.

The bottom line

This isn’t a done deal yet—nothing has been officially confirmed by Liverpool or FSG. But with reports swirling and an announcement potentially imminent, the football world is watching closely.

One thing’s for sure: the Premier League is only getting richer, and Liverpool are about to become even more of a global financial powerhouse.
