Jason Derulo, the “Ridin Solo” crooner, has revealed he’s collaborating with rap queen Nicki Minaj on a hit single titled “Swalla.”
The 27-year-old spoke with Billboard’s Adele Platon during the just concluded 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
Speaking at the red carpet, Derulo hinted that his upcoming song will feature Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. He also explained his reasons for choosing Ty instead of Taylor Gang.
“It’s one that kind of made sense,” the pop singer-songwriter said, comparison Ty to the group which was original formed in 2006.
Taylor Gang refers to “Taylor’s” who are Wiz Khalifa’s fans but later registered by the father-of-one as Taylor Gang Ent. in 2008. The record label was named after Khalifa’s alma mater, Taylor Allderdice High School, and his affinity for Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star sneakers.
Chevy Woods, Berner, and Tuki Carter are among the long list of young musicians- male and female – who signed on to the record label in 2011.
Ty Dolla $ign and Juicy J. joined the entertainment company in December 2013.
Another promising star, J. R. Donato signed to the label in 2014.
Derulo continued: “I never believe in forcing a collaboration. You know, I’m a fan of both of theirs and I thought that they fit the track perfectly.
It’s one of those ones that’ll get you up and doing your thing. I feel like it’s gonna stick out on the radio,” he adds. “There’s nothing that sounds like it.”
The “Watcha Say” singer who has sold over 30 million singles revealed his “Swalla” video will be shot in the Caribbean. He gushed at the idea of touching his roots as a Florida-born son to a Haitian couple.
“You know we’re from the islands. So, we really took it there and it’s definitely a must-see,” Jason brags in his promotional statements.
“As soon as the video comes out, make sure you’re clicking,” he urged every loyal fan.
Derulo writes songs for Puff Daddy, Sean Kingston, Lil Wayne and a host of other stars. He is also a co-owner of the record label named Future History.
His excitement on landing a chance to work Minaj inspired even more dreams for the future. He said another partnership with the “Pink Friday” rapper is more likely to happen soonest.
“Let’s see,” teased Derulo. “She’s working in the hometown of Miami right now. I’m there constantly, so I wouldn’t see a problem with making that happen ASAP,” he said.
Jason was involved in a three-year relationship with singer Jordan Sparks before they went separate ways in 2014.
“I think everything happens for a reason,” he told DuJour, according to a report from Us magazine in 2015.
“I think I was in that relationship for a reason, and I don’t regret anything, but at the same time I know how good it feels to be on my own right now.
“There was a lot of pressures of marriage,” he said.
“There was a lot of arguing and stuff like that just weighed on our relationship over time. When you stop having more good times than bad times, it’s time to call it quits. It becomes something that is unhealthy.”
