JAMIE Vardy’s new wife was among the few unlucky football fans caught up in the chaotic violence between England, Russia and police at the stadium in Marseille.

Rebekah Vardy, 34, posted a photo on Twitter of her enjoying a pint before the 8 o’clock kick-off against Russia with the caption: “In with the carnage amongst the England fans…”

But as supporters clashed with French police and tear gas was deployed, the mum-of-three tweeted her disgust at the “shocking” scenes.

She said: “That has to be up there with the worst experience EVER at an away game! Teargassed for no reason, caged and treated like animals! Shocking!”

Another tweet read: “I witnessed this with my own eyes! I can’t comment on things I didn’t see but what I got caught up in was horrific and uncalled for!”

One supporter who saw the terrifying incident said Mrs Vardy had to be rescued by her father.

The eye-witness said: “She found herself cornered. The stadium gates were shut. Clouds of tear gas came in and she looked terrified and very distressed.”

According to the source: “Her dad led her through it all. He covered her face with a coat. She looked pretty shaken up.”

“This is the first time she and Vardy have been away together since the wedding.

“Not many brides get tear-gassed on their honeymoon.”

Rebekah only married the Leicester city star 18 days ago.

It is not known the Leicester striker was aware of his wife’s fate during the match.

Saturday’s ugly clashes between enraged supporters and police follow two consecutive days of violent scenes.

At least one fan is thought to be in critical condition, while 31 are in hospital as England and Russia supporters clashed before the 1-1 draw.

Football governing body UEFA has launched an investigation into the violence after the match.
