Iran’s supreme leader says Israel “must be punished” for an apparent attack on an Iranian consulate building in Syria.
Tehran has blamed Israel for the airstrike in the Syrian capital of Damascus last week which killed two of its senior military commanders.
“The evil regime made a mistake and must be punished and it shall be,” Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said during a speech to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Israel has not commented on the strike.
Earlier this week, Iran’s foreign minister accused the US of giving Israel the “green light” to target the consulate building – an accusation denied by Washington.
