More now on the growing hopes of a truce agreement between Hamas and Israel – this time from the US perspective.
Sources in the United States are “increasingly optimistic” about a breakthrough, according to CNN.
A senior official told the news outlet a deal is “very close”.
President Joe Biden – asked yesterday if a deal was getting nearer – said “I believe so”.
It follows numerous reports that talks mediated by Qatar are progressing well.
Details of an outline agreement apparently include a multi-day pause in fighting, the release of 50 Israeli hostages, and a pledge from Israel to free Palestinian women and children from prisons in the country.
Reports in the US say Qatar could even officially announce a truce today. But that is unconfirmed for now.
