Israel-Gaza Update: Rafah crossing ‘set to open’ today

Gaza aid crossing to open at 10am local time – US embassy

The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt is set to open on Saturday, 21 October at 10am local time (8am UK time), according to the US Embassy.

The move would allow foreigners to leave Gaza, which is under Israeli fire.

In a social media post, the embassy said it had “received info” the crossing would open this morning.

“We do not know how long it will remain open for foreign citizens to depart Gaza,” it added.

The embassy said it expected “many people would attempt to cross” and those trying to enter Egypt “should expect a potentially chaotic and disorderly environment on both sides of the crossing”.

“The situation remains dynamic and fluid and the security environment is unpredictable. You should assess your personal safety and security before choosing to move toward the border or trying to cross,” the embassy said.
