Is Philippe Coutinho heading to Everton?

Philippe Coutinho could be set for a return to Liverpool, although not with the same club where he shone as a player, but with their local rival Everton.

According to The Sun, Everton want to sign the Brazilian from Barcelona this summer and are prepared to pay €40 million to make it happen.

Per the cited report, Coutinho is already looking for a place to live in Liverpool, a city he know well from his time with Jurgen Klopp’s side, who he left for Barça in 2018 in a deal worth up to €160m.

Coutinho is currently sidelined with a knee injury. He has played just 14 games since picking up the problem in the final game of 2020 against Eibar.

Barça coach Ronald Koeman even said recently that it’s unlikely the playmaker will feature again this season, with just five league games to go.

If Everton’s interest is real, it remains to be seen if Barça will be prepared to let their club-record signing leave for so much less than they paid for him — although their financial situation could force their hand.
