Germany’s foreign minister has insisted the US has found common ground with the rest of the G7 on Iran.
“We are already feeling the economic repercussions [of the war] everywhere, especially in Europe, quite significantly,” Johann Wadephul told reporters at the G7 meeting near Paris.
“That’s why we discussed these issues very thoroughly, and there is absolutely no disagreement.”
There has not been any request from the US to Germany “to make a military contribution” before the end of hostilities in the region, Wadephul said.
G7 urges ‘immediate stop’ to civilian attacks
In a joint statement, foreign ministers of the G7 called for an immediate stop to attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Iran war.
During their meeting, the group focused on initiatives “to mitigate global economic shocks”, the statement, seen by the Reuters news agency, said.
The ministers also reportedly reiterated the need to restore safe and toll-free freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Alongside the US and the European Union, the G7 members are:
- The UK
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- Italy
- Japan
