Nigerian actor and filmmaker Charles Churchill has finally addressed the recent Father’s Day snub by his children, Meurer and Tonto, revealing that he is closely monitoring their actions and reactions.
In a candid interview with journalists on Tuesday, Churchill opened up about the emotional toll of not receiving any public acknowledgment from his children on Father’s Day, which was celebrated globally on Sunday. The actor, who has been embroiled in a public feud with his ex-wife and children in recent years, stated that he is taking note of their behaviour and will not be rushed into making any decisions about reconciliation.
Speaking from his Lagos residence, Churchill expressed disappointment but maintained a measured tone. “I am watching their performance closely. Father’s Day came and went, and I didn’t hear a word from them. That says a lot about where their hearts are,” he said. “But I am not one to force anyone to love or appreciate me. I have moved on with my life, and I am focused on my own peace and happiness.”
The actor’s comments come just days after his children, Meurer and Tonto, publicly celebrated the day with their mother and stepfather, sharing heartfelt tributes on social media that made no mention of Churchill. The snub has since sparked widespread debate online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the strained father-child relationship.
When pressed further on whether he still holds out hope for a reunion with his children, Churchill remained guarded. “I am not closing the door on anyone, but I am also not going to beg for attention. They are grown adults now, and they know the right thing to do. I am watching their performance, and when the time is right, I will know what steps to take,” he added.
The actor also addressed critics who have accused him of being a neglectful father, firing back at those he feels have misjudged his family situation. “People talk without knowing the full story. I have always provided for my children, and I have always been there for them, even when they chose to walk away. Let them continue with their narratives—I know my truth,” he stated.
In response to the ongoing public scrutiny, Churchill maintained that he remains unfazed by the drama. “Social media will always have something to say, but I am not losing sleep over it. I am focused on my career and my wellbeing. If they want to reach out, they know where to find me. Until then, I am watching their performance,” he reiterated.
The actress Tonto Dikeh, who has been at the centre of the feud with Churchill since their highly publicised divorce, has yet to respond to his latest remarks. However, sources close to the family suggest that tensions remain high, and any possibility of reconciliation appears distant for now.
As the debate continues to rage across Nigerian social media platforms, Churchill urged his fans and followers to respect his privacy and allow him to move forward in peace. “I have said my piece. What will be, will be. I am not holding any grudges, but I am also not going to pretend that everything is fine. Let us all move on,” he concluded.
