More information is emerging about the strike on the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The strike, which is being attributed to Israel, destroyed a building used by the Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, killing at least four Iranians, Syrian and Iranian state media reported.

The Syrian army said the building in the tightly-guarded western Damascus area of Mazzeh was entirely destroyed.

Nour News, which is believed to be close to the country’s intelligence apparatus, identified two of the dead in Damascus as General Sadegh Omidzadeh, the intelligence deputy of the guard’s expeditionary Quds Force in Syria, and his deputy, who goes by the nom de guerre Hajj Gholam. 

Iran condemns Israeli strike on Damascus as ‘attempt to spread instability’

Iran as condemned an Israeli strike on the Syrian capital, Damascus, calling it a “desperate attempt to spread instability in region”.

The comments from the Iranian foreign ministry, reported on state media, come amid reports that an Iranian general was among those killed.

“Iran… reserves its right to respond to the organised terrorism of the fake Zionist regime at the appropriate time and place,” foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani was quoted by state media as saying. 

He also urged foreign countries and international organisations to condemn the attack. 

US personnel suffer minor injuries in attack on Iraqi air base

US personnel suffered minor injuries and a member of Iraq’s security forces was seriously injured in an attack on Iraq’s Ain al Asad air base.

A US official said initial reports indicated that the base was hit by ballistic missiles but left open the possibility the base was hit by rockets, adding an assessment was ongoing.
