Anthony Blinken

Hamas the ‘only thing’ standing between Gazan people and a ceasefire – Blinken

The US Secretary of State has accused Hamas of blocking a ceasefire in Gaza and being more interested in a regional conflict than in helping the Palestinian people.

Antony Blinken said in Capri: “The only thing standing between the Gazan people and a ceasefire is Hamas.”

He added: “It’s rejected generous proposals from Israel.

“It seems more interested in a regional conflict than it is in a ceasefire that would immediately improve the lives of the Palestinian people.”

Mr Blinken also said Hamas “continues to move the goalposts”.

He went on: “The world needs to know and needs to understand that the only thing standing between a ceasefire and the Gazan people is Hamas.”

US has not been involved in any offensive operations – Blinken

Antony Blinken is now taking questions from reporters…

He is asked if the US was alerted to Israel’s attack on Iran ahead of time and if it raised any objections.

He says he “will not speak to that” but that the “United States has not been involved in any offensive operations”.

“What we’re focused on and again what the G7 is focused on… is our work to de-escalate tensions,” he adds.

‘I’m going to be incredibly boring’ – Blinken refuses to answer question on Israel attack again

Antony Blinken has been asked why he’s refusing to comment on the apparent Israeli attack on Iran in the early hours of this morning.

He responds: “I am going to be incredibly boring and not make your day by saying again I am not going to speak on what’s been reported.”

He also reiterates the line he’s been saying throughout the conference: “The United States has not been involved in any offensive operations.”
