Germany is planning to send more air defences to Ukraine to help it protect grain shipments from Russian bombardments, according to a report.
Berlin is looking to transfer an extra IRIS-T system and more than a dozen Gepard anti-aircraft guns to Kyiv to repel attacks on shipments bound for Romania, sources close to the matter told Bloomberg.
The news site said the weapons would arrive in Ukraine by the end of 2023, while the IRIS-T units would come at a later date once built.
Germany has already bolstered Ukraine’s defence against the Russian invasion with two IRIS-T systems sent in August.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the launchers were “powerful and much-needed”.
