Gaza is becoming a “graveyard for children”, the head of the UN has said.
Hospitals, refugee camps and UN facilities have been hit, secretary-general Antonio Guterres said.
No one was safe in Gaza, he said, calling for the protection of civilians to be “paramount” in the conflict.
“Ground operations by the Israel Defence Forces and continued bombardment are hitting civilians, hospitals, refugee camps, mosques, churches and UN facilities – including shelters. No one is safe,” Mr Guterres told reporters.
“At the same time, Hamas and other militants use civilians as human shields and continue to launch rockets indiscriminately towards Israel.”
He said clear violations of international humanitarian law were being committed and again appealed for a humanitarian ceasefire.
The Hamas-led Gaza health ministry said in an update today that 4,104 children have been killed by Israeli airstrikes since the war broke out four weeks ago.
