From Tom Hanks to Dr Dre – the stars who live in fire-ravaged LA suburb

One of the fires ravaging Los Angeles has broken out in the affluent Pacific Palisades neighbourhood, which is home to Hollywood A-listers and billionaires.

According to Velvet Ropes, which maps celebrity properties, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Matt Damon, Steven Spielberg, Hillary Swank and Sally Field all have homes close to where fires are raging.

Dr Dre, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Tyra Banks, Martin Short, Anna Faris, Milo Ventimiglia, Linda Cardellini, Mary McDonnell and Jennifer Love Hewitt also have houses in affected areas.

Other stars reported to be living or have homes in the Pacific Palisades include Ben Affleck, Reese Witherspoon, Adam Sandler and Miles Teller.

In neighbouring Malibu, where some residents have also been evacuated – and which was also affected by fires in December – stars including Beyonce and Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish are said to be among the celebrity residents.

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill posted on social media on Tuesday evening to say he was evacuated from his home in Malibu, and told residents to “stay safe”.

Firefighters preparing for long hours ahead

Firefighters could be putting in shifts as long as 48 hours, according to a union chief.

The president of the California professional firefighters union, Brian Rice, told CNN  “gusts that are reported into the 60s, 70s and 80s (miles per hour), you’re not going to control that.

“These men and women are going to put in 24, 36, 40, 48-hour shifts. They are not going off the fire line anytime soon.”

He added: “Everyone is at the mercy of the wind right now. And until we see a shift in the wind, or a drop in the wind, it’s just not going to let up.”

‘Absolute miracle’ no fatalities so far

A Los Angeles councilwoman has said it’s an “absolute miracle” that there have been no fatalities reported so far.

Traci Park, who represents District 11 which includes the affected Pacific Palisades, told our partner network NBC News: “I really want to commend neighbours in the area for their swift response and compliance with local orders.

“This was a fire that grew and moved very, very quickly with wind conditions as well as all of the dry conditions, it’s been at least eight months since we’ve had rain in this area.

“It is an absolute miracle that we do not have any reported fatalities at this point.”
