Two former Conservative ministers: Sir Robert Buckland, who served as justice secretary, and Paul Scully, who served as postal affairs minister after the 2019 court ruling that vindicated sub-postmasters, have aired their opinions about the UK Post Office scandal.
From 10.30am, campaigners Alan Bates and Jo Hamilton, along with Fujitsu and Post Office bosses, will appeared before a parliamentary committee, and Sir Robert agrees with Sky News’ Kay Burley that the ongoing session will be “fiery”.
He went on: “I think the witnesses today, particularly Fujitsu, will be of real importance.”
He said this is a chance for parliament “to hold key figures to account” while the public inquiry is still ongoing.
Mr Scully said the Fujitsu and Post Office bosses appearing today – neither of whom were in post during the scandal itself – “still have questions to answer [about] what their companies knew, when, and why they doubled down” on saying there was no possible errors in the Horizon system.
But he also cautioned that the MPs questioning them today should not “tread on the working” of the public inquiry.
