How do you go about farting on the pitch during a match as if it’s your bedroom? And how on earth could you be that disrespectful farting to a referee’s face? Maybe, nervousness or another way of telling the referee, ‘I don’t like your biased officiating, take this and ponder over it when the match is over!’

That could possibly be what this footballer Adam Ljungkvist was thinking when he uncontrollably, farted very close to a referee during a match in which his team finally lost.

A report says the talented Swedish player had been booked with a yellow card during the ninth tier match in Sweden. Out of anger or frustration, he responded without words by letting off smelly gas, loudly.

Though the player insists that he, in no way, meant to be disrespectful to either the referee or anyone around him on the pitch by his behavior. He says it was just a case of answering nature’s call in a difficult circumstance. 

Talking to a Swedish newspaper Lanstidningen Sodertalje, Adam said:“I needed to fart, I had a bad stomach. So I just farted. Then I received a yellow card and then a red.” 

He continued: “The ref ‘may have thought that I farted in my hand and threw it towards him, but he didn’t say.’

“I was shocked, it’s the strangest thing I have ever experienced on a football field,” Adam explained to the paper.

“I asked the referee, ‘what am I not allowed to break wind a little?”

“He replied ‘no’.”

Kristoffer Linde, an opposition striker, said: “I was standing a good distance away but I heard the fart loud and clear.

“It’s the strangest thing I’ve seen on a pitch, and I’ve been playing football since I was eight years old.”

Later Adam told German newspaper Aftonbladet that he had to confront the referee at the end of the match to express his anger, but like a gentleman. He said: “I spoke to the referee afterwards, I was annoyed, but there were no bad words. I just said he was a buffoon.”

Referee Dany Kako said: “I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a [second] yellow card.”

The flatulent footballer had been playing left-back for Pershagen SK. His team lost 6-2 apparently because he didn’t fart where he should have, at the right time.

Imagine if he (as a left back) had quietly let the gas hover near the goal post for 90 minutes, scaring opponents away from scoring.
