Felicity Jones talks about her ‘Jyn Erso’ role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Felicity Jones is surely having a good year just as she has enjoyed lots of memorable moments in the past years. The English actress featured as Jyn Erso in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.

“Look, I have a smile permanently on my face,” the multiple awards winner told ET Online, pointing to her beautifully dimpled cheeks.

“I’m just enjoying it. I love what I do, and it’s lovely to hopefully keep doing. I’m enjoying every minute. It’s a real ride.”

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ was released this month, and the movie has received positive reviews so far.

“I’ve always loved Han Solo,” the ‘Rogue One’ highest paid actor told Travers. “I liked his kind of maverick behavior. I wanted that to be in Jyn. Someone who doesn’t always play by the rules.”

The Birmingham-born star has proven herself a versatile actress with her roles in blockbuster action movies. This is more appreciated for the fact that casting a woman in Hollywood action movies has been considered as “old news”.

“I’m asked a lot, ‘Oh, my God. It’s a female lead.’ I sort of feel like, if it was a giraffe leading it, then that would be a weird point of conversation,” Jones said.

“It would be very unusual to have a giraffe as the lead,” she repeated, making reference to the Millennium Falcon.

“We’re there now. We’re there now.

She continued: “My character’s [Jyn Erso’s] boots. I wore those boots even before shooting. I would wear them for weeks before to kind of get the feel of them. I felt very close to those boots.

“I think, as an actor, you have to have quite a strong sense of self,” Jones says.

“It’s not that I change from role to role. My job is to take on different characters for that time. Even if you’re crying or doing emotional scenes, you’re actually having a really good time.

“Contrary to the stereotype of the actor, you have to be quite stable, quite solid and consistent.

“A lot of the way I built [Jyn] was through her walk, I used to watch Ronda Rousey,” Jones reveals. “In terms of getting that kind of energy and that sort of physicality.”

According to The L.A. Times, Jones chipped in that Jyn, her character and the others in ‘Rogue One’, are all ordinary people. She said that the background to the story is hinged on “a sense of reality despite the running, jumping and shooting blasters”.

“Nobody has any bit of special, magical powers,”  she says.

“I think that’s what makes it very different from other ‘Star Wars’ films. They are coming with quite a lot of baggage, all of them. That’s part of it. They’re not clean and tidy.”

In 2013, Jones split from her boyfriend Ed Fornieles, a sculptor and Internet artist. She met him at Oxford when he was at the Ruskin School of Art. Both were in a ten-year relationship before the separation.
