Dimitri Payet confirms move to To Ligue 1 club Marseille

Dimitri Payet has left English Premier League club West Ham for a mouth-watering £25 million offered by French club Marseille.

The jaw-dropping amount is estimated to be around two and a half more of what the Hammers paid to have him in the summer of 2015.

Payet, 29, finally had his dreams come true after falling out with the Hammers’ coach.

The French midfielder insisted on a move from Slaven Bilic’s side, and protested by refusing to play for the team against Crystal Palace in their 14 January fixture.

“West Ham United can confirm that a £25m fee has today been agreed for the transfer of Dimitri Payet to Olympique de Marseille,” a statement from West Ham‘s website said.

Payet played a total of 38 games and scored 12 times for the Hammers.

His previous contract with the London club was signed after his wonderful outing for France at the 2016 European Championships. He would have remained at the club until 2012 but unfortunately, a lot of things went wrong.

The coach was angered after Payet refused to play for the team, and the club cited a contract violation which forced led to a decision not to let him go.

Luckily for the young player, Marseille came to his rescue with a big paycheck.

Don Hutchison, a former West Ham player thinks it’s so wrong for the Frenchman to consider leaving after all the love he received from fans.

So Payet’s deal is agreed. Such a shame he leaves @WestHamUtd this way after an amazing 2015/16 season & adored by the fans #RuinedLegacy

It is now an argument whether the midfielder will be missed or not.

The Hammers have so far won two games and scored 6 goals in the campaign.

Hutchison apparently feels hurt by Payet’s newest deal. As if his previous Twitter post didn’t quite express his emotions, he added: “Just another that came and went mate.
The badge on the front will always be bigger than the name on the back.”

  1. Good news for the Frenchman and all fans who supported his exit. People can talk thrash but his interest matters most. Not the slave club.
