Denmark send warship to join fleet battling Houthis in the Red Sea

Denmark has dispatched a warship to join a US-led coalition in the Red Sea to combat the Houthis.

Ships are facing regular attacks by the rebel group in the Red Sea.

The Yemen-based, Iran-backed Houthis say they are targeting any and all ships they believe are linked, operated, owned, flagged or travelling to or from Israel.

US and British destroyers are among an international taskforce set up to protect shipping from Houthi attacks.

Speaking on board the frigate Iver Huitfeldt before its departure, the Danish defence minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, said “someone has to stand up for free world trade, and we have taken on the responsibility to help make that happen”.
