Rio Olympic Games, 2016: Chen Xinyi [a Chinese swimmer] has allegedly failed her drug test though she has since protested her innocence. Reports confirm she tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic often used as a masking agent for performance-enhancing drugs.
The event occurred early Friday morning.
According to China’s official news agency Xinhua, the test itself took place last Sunday, the day she started competing, although Brazilian media has reported that the test took place in China before she travelled to the Games.
However, with all doping cases at the Olympics being handled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the 18-year-old has opted against asking for a provisional suspension and has requested for her B sample to be tested, MSN reported.
A source close to the process told Press Association Sport that the court held a preliminary hearing in Rio on Thursday.
Chen finished fourth in the 100 metres butterfly on Monday and is still scheduled to swim in Saturday’s 50 metres freestyle.
