Real Madrid have been drawn against Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk and Sheriff Tiraspol in this year’s Champions League group stage. It is remarkably similar to last year’s group, with Sheriff replacing the German side Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Real Madrid fans should be happy with the draw. While Inter will prove tough competition for the top spot, Shakhtar and Sheriff are likely to finish third and fourth respectively owing to the quality of their squads. Moldovan outfit Sheriff Tiraspol will look to spring a surprise in what will be their first ever appearance in Champions League football.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side can’t take anything for granted, however. Just last season, ‘Los Blancos’ almost got knocked in the final group game against Shakhtar Donetsk, which would have seen them drop down to the Europa League at the expense of the Ukrainian side.
